Overview

Now in its third successful year, Welfare to Work 2010 is the UK’s premier forum for facilitating a national discussion about the drive for world-class public services, delivered by a highly skilled workforce. This conference will bring together over 400 key decision makers from across the UK together with high calibre speakers and service providers to analyse the latest strategies for achieving long-term employment.

Following the announcement of the new coalition government’s Welfare Reform Bill, this conference is a timely opportunity to understand the new agenda, focus on recent data, locate areas for improvement and discuss the latest strategies to achieve both long-term and sustained employment in Britain. We look forward to hearing from invited speaker Chris Grayling MP, Minister of State Employment, Work and Pensions who will outline government plans on the welfare to work agenda and the next steps to ensure economic growth through long-term employment.

This year’s programme will also highlight the major challenge of tackling unemployment through private sector partnerships. A single scheme welfare programme, operated largely by the private sector.

The Government is implementing a more simplified tax and benefit system in order to improve work incentives. At Welfare to Work 2010, we will discuss the government plans to revise the confusing and complex nature of the benefits system for the benefit of people progressing from benefits into work.

This year’s agenda will also focus on the government’s investment strategy to build long term economic growth whilst meeting the challenge of the recession, through investment in high level skills and new job creation. Confirmed speaker, John Landeryou, Director of Learning, Quality and Systems, BIS will explore this agenda in depth and discuss the new policies and investment in place to ensure both business and employment opportunities as we re-shape our economy. Also Steven Purcell, Leader, Glasgow City Council will present their case study on workforce achievement and how to transform skills to achieve a sustainable workforce.

The role of the third and private sectors is vital if we are to achieve sustained recovery through the recession. Welfare to Work 2010 will explore the development of key partnerships with these sectors and their role in achieving sustainable employment through training provision and work experience.

This topical event will provide delegates with an unparalleled opportunity to consider closely the impact of the recent changes to the welfare system. It is a crucial opportunity for all involved in the development and delivery of welfare services to debate the issues and discuss the key challenges we face as priorities are realigned. This conference is not to be missed.
