£6bn of efficiency cuts has been announced by the new coalition government as it attempts to reduce Britain’s record deficit of £163bn this year. The challenge for the public sector is to reduce the cost of public services without compromising the frontline services the public depends on. There is considerable scope for cost savings, with good practice already taking place in both central and local government, working in partnership with the private sector to deliver a range of back office and operational support services at significantly reduced cost.
Efficiency Through Service Delivery Partnerships 2010 will examine the public sector's role as a commissioner or purchaser of services, and how cost savings can be delivered through innovative outsourcing partnerships with the private and third sectors to enable efficiency, flexibility and choice.
