Maintaining the security and integrity of the criminal justice system is challenging enough in a steady-state environment. However, as the digital revolution unfolds, the system is becoming exposed to a new generation of ‘cyber threats’. Sensitive electronic data – from the personal details of trial participants through to the details of sensitive court cases – can be compromised and exploited. New on-line processes – from fees, fines and disbursement through to electronic voting – can be abused, influenced or defrauded. Wireless networks and mobile communication devices give organised criminals – sometimes from within our prisons – the capability to commit these acts with unprecedented scale and reach. This presentation will examine the new risks, how we can contain them and the implications of doing so.

James Chappell, 'Head of Enterprise Security Services, Detica Detica

Gwent Police have been using QlikView for over two years to provide management information across the force. The force use QlikView in two areas; Force Performance and Human Resources.
The use of QlikView has enabled Gwent Police to assess the performance of police officers and staff at all levels of the organization in detail, which with previous systems in place within the Force has not been possible. In addition, QlikView has enabled the force to more clearly identify the availability of appropriately trained staff and highlight where there are shortages.
Gwent Police can create a variety of dashboards that present force performance information from a number of dimensions. The solution was deployed in a matter of weeks and the in-house team support QlikView and can deliver new dashboards in minutes.
Gwent Police will be demonstrating the value to the force of having all of this information available in QlikView.

Paul Evans, Data Analyst, Gwent Police
All organisations understand the need to embrace IT to increase productivity and to drive down costs. However not all organisations understand that security is the enabler of this process and should not be viewed as the reason not to make the changes that are necessary.
Using Cisco as an example this session will discuss how security enables the business and how one of the big challenges is how much risk to accept. Risk needs to be managed and not avoided, and this session will discuss how one organisation, albeit in a different sector, approaches the problem.
Speaker:
Paul King, Senior Security Advisor, Cisco
