Alternative Parliamentary Awards
After last year’s rip-roaring success, GovNet Communications is set to host its Annual Alternative Parliamentary Awards 2009, recognising the very best of the alternative side of politics, on Tuesday 30th June 2009 at the Lords’ Terrace Pavilion
Often, the danger with politics, and therefore politicians, is that it can seem inaccessible, shrouded in secrecy and difficult to comprehend. Aiming to debunk some of that mythology, and show that the leading lights of the UK government are as human as the rest of us, is GovNet Communications’ Annual Alternative Parliamentary Awards 2009.
Now in its second year, the unusual event will recognise the weird, wonderful and wacky from the world of politics, with winners in categories such as Alternative politician of the year and Palace Jester. Hosted by Eleanor Laing MP, Lord Archy Kirkwood, Sir Robert Worcester, Hilary Armstrong and Lord George Foulkes, the awards are set to showcase the lighter side of Whitehall.
Award Categories
• Alternative Politician of the Year – recognising excellence in their field and the ability to stand out from a crowd to get their unique message across
• Unsung hero – rewarding those who put in the hard work behind the scenes while rarely seeing the limelight
• Palace Jester – politicians can be funny too – the prize is awarded to the side-splitters and rib ticklers among our elite
• Political TV Personality of the Year – presented to those who are as happy in front of the camera as the front benches
• Scribbler of the Year – Where would politics be without journalists, bloggers or cartoonists to poke fun at them? We reward only the most imaginative critics
