Welcome to GovNet Events’ 6th Annual Education Conference, the premier event for those involved with shaping and delivering key education policy in the UK. Over 400 key stakeholders will join prominent speakers and expert suppliers at this high profile and prestigious conference to discuss and debate key solutions to creating a world class UK education system.
The government realises that if we are to meet future targets, such as creating a highly skilled workforce and eradicating child poverty by 2020 then urgent action must take place in schools across the country to ensure we achieve these goals. The Children’s Plan and the 21st Century Schools White Paper both pave the way for reform of the UK education system. The 21st Century Schools White Paper focuses on the changes needed across the entire school system, and how individual schools will need to look beyond traditional boundaries, be outward facing and work in close partnership with key stakeholders across the education sector. We look forward to hearing from invited speaker, the Rt Hon Ed Balls MP, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families on the government's future investment plans to ensure a high class education system for all.
In the current economic climate, education budgets are placed under constant pressure. This conference will provide a forum for discussion on how practitioners, agencies and government departments can work together to ensure that the education system does not fall foul of a lack of funding on its journey to create world class learning opportunities for all.The government have already made strides to become more efficient in education by devolving all responsibility for management and delivery of all school capital programmes to Partnerships for Schools (PfS) – a total of £21.6bn over the entire Comprehensive Spending Review period up to 2011. We look forward to hearing from Tim Byles, Chief Executive of Partnerships for Schools on how the new method for delivery of capital programmes will create effective, efficient and streamlined systems to provide benefits directly to schools, teachers and, most importantly, learners.
The government’s Digital Britain report outlined policies to maximise the social and economic benefits from digital technologies. The report provides a solid base on which to build on the good work currently taking place in schools across the country to embed the use of new technologies. We look forward to hearing from Stephen Crowne, Chief Executive of BECTA on the planned £600m strategic investment in future technologies to 2011 and how more is being done now to help parents and guardians support young learners to use IT as an education tool. The exhibition area will also provide delegates with the opportunity to sample some of the newest and most cutting edge classroom technologies that provide innovative ways of teaching and learning in schools across the country.
One of the key highlights from Education 09 was a address from Phil Beadle, Associate Independent Thinking Ltd on 'Innovative Approaches to Teaching and Learning'. At Education 2010, we are pleased to welcome confirmed speaker and respected Educational Expert & Behavioural Consultant John Bayley who will provide a plenary address on 'Addressing Behavioural Problems in the Classroom'. Some of the key issues he will cover include new technologies available to help teach challenging students, alternative teaching methods and student motivation.
With a general election due in 2010, this conference will provide delegates with an opportunity to hear from and question invited speaker Michael Gove MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families on his party’s policy on school reform including; the creation of technical schools, reducing bureaucracy in the education system, increasing the recruitment of the best graduates into teaching and the case for more academy schools.
This timely conference will provide delegates with an opportunity to hear from high level speakers, attend policy focused seminar sessions, provide exposure to expert suppliers and offer unrivalled networking opportunities, this conference is one not to be missed. We look forward to welcoming you.
